TRACK REVIEW: Love Tonight by Apriori
Blackpool rock trio Apriori return after two years with single Love Tonight, giving listeners a first taste of forthcoming album Bad To The Bone.
We jump straight in, wasting no time with a husky riff, setting a gritty tone before the full band kicks in. Hearing it, although Apriori have certainly made their own sound, I can’t help but ponder if they might have influences from bands such as The Treatment and Mason Hill.
The track effectively balances between melody and power. Tony Lang’s vocals carry the song with conviction, while Mouse’s kit practically echoes through with drive and precision, adding momentum without crowding the other parts. Mark’s keys add a brilliant layer to the track, helping the guitars and rhythm section feel joined up. Each part has room to come through, and the result feels full without becoming cluttered.
The chorus seems to immediately get stuck in your head, without feeling too formulaic. There’s a steady lift through the song, and its punchy sound feels well suited to a live set. After a decade of building their reputation and sound, this sounds like they’re starting to come together cohesively.
The lyrics almost seem obsessive, an all consuming side to loving a person. Is this healthy? Maybe not. Does it make a damn catchy song though? Absolutely. If this is the standard being set for the rest of the album, listeners have plenty to look foward to.
The video for this releases on Friday 16th October, amd their fourth album, Bad To The Bone, is set to release in early summer 2027.
